Disclosed is a light-emitting device comprising a combination of a light source capable of emitting an excited light and a phosphor capable of absorbing the excited light to emit a light, wherein the phosphor is one mainly composed of an α-type sialon represented by the general formula: (Caα,Euβ)(Si,Al)12(O,N)16 [wherein 1.5 < α+β < 2.2, 0 < β < 0.2, O/N ≤ 0.04] and having a specific surface area of 0.1 to 0.35 m2/g. The light-emitting device can produce a color that is hardly changed in accordance with the change in temperature even when used under high-temperature environments, can emit a light efficiently, and is suitable particularly for a vehicular lighting fixture such as a head lamp. |
