abstract The invention aims to impart excellent deodorant and antimicrobial properties to a water-absorbing resin composition comprising a water-absorbing resin as the main component without impairing the surface appearance and water absorption characteristics of the resin. The first embodiment of the invention relates to a water-absorbing resin composition which comprises a water-absorbing resin component comprising a polyacrylic acid (salt) type water-absorbing resin as the main component, bamboo extract, and tea extract. The second embodiment of the invention relates to a water-absorbing resin composition which comprises a water-absorbing resin component comprising a polyacrylic acid (salt) type water-absorbing resin as the main component and at least two compounds selected from the group consisting of hexanoic acid (salt), ethyl butyrate, and 3-methyl-2-cyclopenten-1-one. The third embodiment of the invention relates to a process for the production of a water-absorbing resin composition by adding an alcoholic solution of bamboo extract before or after the polymerization of an unsaturated monomer component containing acrylic acid (salt) as the main component.
