titleOfInvention Elliptically polarizing plate, method for producing the same, and liquid crystal display device using the same
abstract Disclosed is an elliptically polarizing plate having a homeotropically aligned liquid crystal layer, which is improved in viewing angle and contrast, while being reduced in thickness. This elliptically polarizing plate is composed of at least a homeotropically aligned liquid crystal layer, which is formed by homeotropically aligning a positive uniaxial liquid crystal composition in a liquid crystal state and then fixing the alignment, a retardation film having a retardation function, and a linear polarizing plate having a multilayer structure wherein one side of a polarizer is protected by a light-transmitting protective film. The elliptically polarizing plate is characterized by having either of the following multilayer structures: (A) the light-transmitting protective film/the polarizer/the retardation film/the homeotropically aligned liquid crystal layer; and (B) the light-transmitting protective film/the polarizer/the homeotropically aligned liquid crystal layer/the retardation film.
