The present invention relates to a tripeptide of the formula: R1-His-Thr-Asp-R2 or pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof, wherein R1 is absent or is an N terminal capping group, and R2 is absent or is a C terminal capping group, and pharmaceutical compositions containing such a tripeptide, alone or together with zinc ions or insulin. The present invention also relates to methods of regulating in vivo blood glucose in a human or other mammal or treating diabetes in a human or other mammal by administering such a tripeptide alone or together with zinc ions or insulin. |
