abstract It is intended to provide a process for producing an optically active N-(halopropyl)amino acid derivative. This method comprises: the step wherein an optically active alanine ester represented by the formula (I) or its salt (hereinafter sometimes referred to simply as “alanine ester”) is reacted with a halogenated propane represented by the formula (II) to give a compound represented by the formula (III):and the step wherein a protective group is introduced into the nitrogen atom in the compound represented by the formula (III) as described above to thereby give an optically active N-(halopropyl)amino acid derivative represented by the formula (IV). It is intended to provide a method of effectively producing an optically active N-(halopropyl)amino acid derivative.
