abstract Surface-modified, pyrogenically produced silicic acid is manufactured by modifying, in a known manner, the surface of the pyrogenically produced silicic acid which is provided in the form of aggregates of primary particles and has a BET surface area of 90 ± 15 m2/g, the aggregates having a mean area of 10,000 to 20,000 nm2, a mean equivalent circle diameter (ECD) of 90 to 130 nm, and a mean circumference of 1,000 to 1,400 nm. Said surface-modified, pyrogenically produced silicic acid can be used as a filler for thickening liquid systems.
