abstract The invention relates to a method for producing a compound which has at least one ether group, at least one ester group, at least one amino group or at least one urethane group, preferably at least one ester group. The method according to the invention comprises the following steps: a1) producing 1,2 propandiol by way of a method wherein glycerol is hydrated in the presence of a catalyst, the glycerol being reacted to not more than 95% and obtaining a 1,2 propandiol phase; a2) reacting the 1,2 propandiol phase with a compound having at least one active hydrogen atom, at least one epoxy group, at least one ester group or at least one isocyanate group. The invention also relates to the compound obtainable by said method, which compound comprises at least one ether group, at least one ester group or at least one urethane group, to the use of said compound in chemical products, to chemical products, to a method for producing an emulsion and to the emulsion obtainable by said method, to cosmetic formulations, to a method for producing the same, to plastic compositions and to the production thereof and to drilling compositions and to the production thereof.
