Disclosed is a method for producing a sulfonic acid group-containing carbonaceous material, which comprises a step wherein a polymer having a structural unit derived from a resorcinol is subjected to carbonization performed by heating in an inert gas atmosphere and to sulfonation, thereby obtaining a sulfonic acid group-containing carbonaceous material. A catalyst containing the thus-obtained sulfonic acid group-containing carbonaceous material is useful for efficiently producing an object material in various reactions performed in a hydrophobic medium such as an alkylation reaction or a polymerization reaction of an olefin. |
