abstract | The present invention provides methods for enhancing pulmonary host defense in a subject by administering via inhalation of an aerosol or as a dry powder and/or administered as a bronchoalveolar lavage (BAL) an effective amount of granulocyte colony stimulating factor (G-CSF) or a functional homologue thereof. Methods of the present invention are useful in alleviating symptoms and/or treating conditions including lung cancer, pneumonia, ventilator associated pneumonia (VAP), hospital acquired pneumonia (HAP), community acquired pneumonia (CAP), severe community acquired pneumonia (sCAP), Pneumocystis carinii, panbronchiolitis, bronciectasis and cystic fibrosis with bacterial, fungal and/or viral infection and/or bacterial, fungal and/or viral colonization. |
