The present invention is a bioactive endodontic material and its use for filling the tooth and bone cavities or defects. By using calcium silicate compounds, calcium phosphate compounds, and calcium salts as essential constituents, and mixing them with a water base solution which can be a phosphate buffer saline solution or high pH calcium and/or phosphate solution, or salts solution with a cationic or an anionic component(s), the present invention prepares a bioactive calcium and phosphate enriched material. The mixed cement comprises high concentration of water-soluble calcium and phosphate, and immediately forms hydroxyapatite during and after setting. This cement which can form hydroxyapatite is biocompatible, antibacterial, capable to form an effective seal against reentrance of microorganisms into the filled cavity, compatible to handle and set in an aqueous environment, and able to stimulate hard tissue healing. This composition is useful for various endodontic applications, and particularly suitable for materials being used as vital pulp therapy, root-end filling, perforation repair, root canal sealing, root canal filling, intermediate filling, and for reparative bone surgery. |
