titleOfInvention Deep hole drill with supporting ring and method for producing said drill
abstract The present invention relates to a deep hole drill having a shaft and a cutting part, which comprises a fluted portion and a cutting tip, wherein the fluted portion has helical flutes (5), which are separated from one another by corresponding helical ridges (6), and wherein at least one end cutting edge is arranged on the cutting tip and defines a nominal radius (R) of the drill, wherein the axial length of the cutting part is at least twenty times the nominal radius (R), and wherein the radius (r1) of the fluted portion over the greatest part of its length is less than the nominal radius. To provide a deep hole drill that has improved drilling performance at the same time as low friction in the drilled hole and tends less easily to undergo oscillations and/or oscillation-induced additional loads, it is proposed according to the invention that the ridges (6) of the fluted portion have at at least one axial position along their circumferential surfaces a supporting rib (7) extending substantially in the circumferential direction, wherein the radially outermost face of the supporting rib defines a radius (r2) that is greater than the radius (r1) of the fluted portion, at least in the region axially adjacent to the supporting rib (7).
