The present invention relates to formulations based on a w/o emulsion for topical application containing one or more alpha hydroxy acids in an amount of 1-30 % of the formulation, a specific polar oil and a suitable emulsifier having a reduced stinging potential and an improved feel. The formulations are intended for use as a cosmetic or pharmaceutical formulation.
