A process for selectively and efficiently producing, from a polyhydric alcohol, a product of hydrogenolysis thereof with specific catalysts; and catalysts for polyhydric-alcohol hydrogenolysis which are for use in the reaction. The process, which is for producing a polyhydric-alcohol hydrogenolysis product, comprises bringing a polyhydric alcohol into contact with hydrogen in the presence of (A) a catalyst comprising at least one metallic ingredient selected among platinum, palladium, and ruthenium and (B) a catalyst comprising a rhenium ingredient. |
