titleOfInvention Protein-expression patterns in mononuclear cells as cardiovascular-disease markers
abstract The invention relates in general to the diagnosis, prognosis and treatment of cardiovascular diseases. In particular, it relates to the use of certain protein-expression patterns in mononuclear cells (monocytes/macrophages) and/or in plasma or serum, for the purposes of identifying the risk for patients with cardiovascular disease, including acute coronary syndrome, stable and unstable coronary disease, cerebrovascular disease, peripheral vascular disease and subjects with a high risk of cardiovascular events, and/or for forming a prognosis of the evolution of such diseases in a patient and evaluating the efficacy of a treatment. Thus, the invention results in an in-vitro diagnostic method for identifying the risk of a cardiovascular and cerebrovascular event or disorder and also the risk of suffering from an acute coronary syndrome and/or for evaluating the status thereof, and for forming a prognosis of the evolution thereof in patients presenting a high cardiovascular risk. Similarly, the invention relates to a method for evaluating the efficacy of a pharmacological treatment in patients with acute coronary syndrome, with stable and unstable vascular disease, with cerebrovascular disease and with a high risk of cardiovascular events. Lastly, the invention also relates to a kit for identifying the risk in patients with cardiovascular disease, including acute coronary syndrome, stable and unstable coronary disease, cerebrovascular disease, peripheral vascular disease and subjects presenting a high risk of cardiovascular events, and/or for forming a prognosis of the evolution thereof in a patient.
