abstract The present invention is directed to a new process for the production of 5-fluoro-pyridine-2-carbonitrile (I) in that 2-bromo-5-fluoropyridine is reacted with a palladium source in the presence of DPPF and acetate ions and with a cyanide source. (I) is then reacted with ethanol and hydroxyl amine to produce 5-fluoro-N-hydroxy-pyridine-2-carboxamidine (II).
