abstract |
A filmy catalyst obtained by forming a catalyst layer comprising a powdery catalyst and a binder on a substrate, wherein the catalyst layer has a pore diameter distribution having two or more different mode values as determined by mercury porosimetry; and a process for the production of a filmy catalyst comprising a substrate and a catalyst layer formed thereon which comprises the step of preparing a coating composition comprising a powdery catalyst, a binder and a solvent and the step of forming a catalyst layer on a substrate by using the coating composition to form a catalyst intermediate, wherein the obtained filmy catalyst satisfies therelationship (I): 0.55T1 < t1 < 2T1 (I) wherein T1: the maximum mode value of pore diameter distribution of the powdery catalyst itself used as raw material in the catalyst layer of the filmy catalyst (as determined by mercury porosimetry) and t1: the maximum mode value of pore diameter distribution of the catalyst layer of the filmy catalyst (as determined by mercury porosimetry). |
