abstract | A bis(hydroxymethyl-hydroxyphenyl)alkane is reacted with hexamethylenetetramine in the presence of an acid, and the resulting reaction product is then hydrolyzed, thereby producing a bis(hydroxyl-formylphenyl)alkane, which is used as a direct raw material. The bis(hydroxyl-formylphenyl)alkane is reacted with a halogenated alkoxycarbonyl hydrocarbon in the presence of a base, thereby producing a novel bis(formylphenyl)alkane represented by the general formula (1) and a novel polynuclear phenol derived from the bis(formylphenyl)alkane. |
