abstract The invention relates to a method and an associated device for the single or multiple coating of a continuously moved carrier web (1) with a liquid coating material by a curtain coating method, in which a freely falling, vertical curtain (2) is formed from the coating material and strikes the carrier web (1) along a wetting line (3). The present invention relates particularly to a method for producing a heat-sensitive recording material. The method is characterized in that, before passing the wetting line, the carrier web (1) is pressed down over its entire width by at least one guiding element (4) and, after passing the wetting line (3), is raised up by at least one supporting means (5) in the form of a round element (6) extending transversely in relation to the direction of movement of the carrier web (1), wherein the supporting means (5) also comprises air conduction means (7), with an angle (alpha) between the carrier web (1) and the upper side of the air conduction means (7) ranging from 2° to 15°.
