titleOfInvention | Aceonide of hydroxymethylfurfural and glycerin |
abstract | The present technology relates generally to the production of HMF-glycerin acetal, ethers, diethers, esters, and diesters derived therefrom, and aliphatic or aromatic polyester polymers derived therefrom. For example, HMF-glycerin acetal of the present technology can be formed as a product of the condensation reaction of glycerin with HMF. Compounds produced in accordance with the present technology may have many desirable attributes. For example, the incorporation of rigid furan and dioxolane five membered rings in the backbone of both polyurethanes and polyesters should result in polymers with high Tg and, hence, high service temperatures. Such polymers are also believed to be sensitive to bio- and photo-degradation. |
