abstract This invention relates to a method for detection of items, especially hazardous items, wherein nuclear quadrupole resonance (NQR) is used comprising: providing a transmitter (1) to apply radio frequency pulses (10), providing a receiver (3) with multiple sensors (31, 32, 33), and providing a data processing unit (4), applying the item (2) with radio frequency pulses from the transmitter (1), measuring the excited signals (20) from the item (2) together with signals due to interference (5) by means of the receiver (3), data processing the measured signals (30) in the data processing unit (4) to perform a detection and presenting a result of the detection by means of an information device (5), wherein in the data treatment step merely a limited, chosen frequency range of interest is being treated and that the temperature dependency of the limit chosen NQR frequencies being incorporated in said treatment.
