abstract The object is to discover a naturally occurring compound which does not cause any adverse side effect (e.g., a hormonal effect) or digestive tract disorder unlike a steroidal or non-steroidal degranulation inhibitor and has a degranulation inhibitory effect compatible to that of a steroidal or non-steroidal degranulation inhibitor. A degranulation inhibitor comprising, as an active ingredient, an ellagic acid derivative represented by the formula (I) or a salt thereof: (I) wherein R1 represents a hydroxyl group or a methoxy group and R2 represents a methoxy group, or R1 and R2 together form a methylenedioxy group; R3 represents a hydroxyl group or a methoxy group; and R4 represents a glucosyloxy group or a hydroxyl group.
