Porous hollow-fiber membrane of vinylidene fluoride resin and process for producing the same |
abstract |
A porous hollow-fiber membrane which comprises a vinylidene fluoride resin having a weight-average molecular weight of 200,000-600,000 and has the following properties (A) and (B): (A) when one end of the membrane is coated with an epoxy resin having a hardness of 98, the flex life as measured under a load of 48 g is 100 or more; and (B) the ratio of the value (F) obtained by converting the water permeability as measured at a test length (L) of 200 mm under the conditions of a differential pressure of 100 kPa and a water temperature of 25°C to a value corresponding to a porosity (v) of 70% (L=200 mm; v=70%) (m/day) to the square (Pm2) of an average pore diameter (Pm) (µm ) as measured by the half-dry method, i.e., F (L=200 mm, v=70%)/Pm2, is 2,000 (m/day•µm2) or higher. The porous hollow-fiber membrane not only has excellent flex resistance (A) but has a high water permeability (B) despite the satisfactory microparticle (bacterium) rejection efficiency due to micropores. This porous vinylidene fluoride resin hollow-fiber membrane is especially suitable for use in water filtration by the membrane-separation activated sludge process (MBR method). The porous hollow-fiber membrane is produced by a process for porous hollow-fiber membrane production in which various production conditions are regulated so as to result in an increased outer diameter and an increased wall thickness. |
