abstract An absorbent article (10) comprising a web (12) made of hydrophilic long fibers and lumps (13) of an absorbent polymer contained in the web (12), in which the lumps (13) are distributed in a part of the plane- or thickness-direction area and many short fibers (122) formed by cutting the long fibers are present in a plane-direction zone (M) of the web (12) wherein the lumps (13) are distributed; and a process for the production of the absorbent article which comprises spraying lumps (13) of an absorbent polymer on a web (12) made of hydrophilic long fibers and pressing the long fibers present in a part of the web (12) against the lumps (13) to cut the fibers.
