titleOfInvention Portable phone with ergonomic image projection system
abstract A portable phone (10) includes a handset (12) and an image projection system (44) configured to form a visual image (46) of data, such as caller waiting ID data, on a viewing surface (48) viewable by a user (14) during a two way conversation. The handset (12) also includes a speaker (26), a microphone (28), conventional phone circuitry (38) and a keyboard (32). The image projection system (44) is configured to receive signals from the phone circuitry (38), to generate a pattern (46') representative of the data, to process the pattern (46') into a mirror image (461) of the visual image (46), and to project the mirror image (461) from a bottom end surface (20) of the handset (12). The image projection system (44) includes an electro optic system (45) for generating the pattern, and an optics system (66) for projecting the mirror image (46') onto the viewing surface (48 ).
