titleOfInvention | Method for preventing increases in postoperative intraocular pressure |
abstract | A method is provided for reducing the postoperative intraocular pressure in an eye to a normal pre-operative level while maintaining the therapeutic effects of hyaluronic acid, which is commonly used as a spacer in eye surgeries such as cataract surgery, intraocular lens surgery, corneal transplant surgery, and some types of glaucoma surgery. The method involves anesthetizing the eye at the start of the operative procedure, performing an operative procedure on the eye, and administering to the eye substantially contemporaneously amounts of hyaluronidase and a parasympathomimetic agent and/or corneal preservative solution during or at or near the conclusion of the operative procedure. Kits containing a vial containing a parasympathomimetic agent and/or corneal preservative solution and a syringe or vial containing hyaluronidase are also provided. |
