abstract Wrappers of smoking articles having slit banded regions 10 exhibit both low ignition propensity and reduced rates of self-extinguishment under free burn conditions. In one embodiment, the slit banded regions comprises first 11, second 12 and third 13 zones, with the second zone having greater permeability that the first and third zones, which comprise add-on material. A method of making the wrapperas is also disclosed, as are smoking articles including the wrappers.
