abstract A simple method for analyzing aldehydes and ketones in a sample which does not necessitate a complicated operation comprising extraction with a solvent and concentration of the extract; and an analytical apparatus and a fiber-packed needle which are for use in this analytical method. Also provided are fibers coated with the hydrochloride or sulfate of 2,4-dinitrophenylhydrazine. The needle is one for microextraction in which these fibers have been packed. The analytical apparatus comprises this needle and a suction device. The method, which is for analyzing aldehydes and ketones contained in a sample, is characterized by sucking a sample through the needle in this analytical apparatus to react the aldehydes/ketones contained in the sample with 2,4-dinitrophenylhydrazine and thereby convert them to the corresponding 2,4-dinitrophenylhydrazones, desorbing the hydrazones, and introducing these into a chromatograph to analyze them.
