abstract Disclosed is a method for producing a chemically modified protein, in which an auxiliary protein that carries a reactive, functional group and is composed of an intein fragment and an extein sequence is modified with a group to be introduced into the target protein in a first step, and a target protein that is fused with the intein fragment to be modified and with a complementary intein fragment is reacted in a second step such that the modified extein sequence is combined with the target protein.
