abstract | The present invention provides a method and apparatus for conferring complete systemic analgesia in animals by using carbon dioxide as an anaesthetic. The invention is based on the finding that at concentration above 50% carbon dioxide, inhalation of the anaesthetic gaseous mixture for a carefully selected time, animals experience a complete block in nociception. The invention has established that use of carbon dioxide concentrations of about 70% provide for superior results. |
