abstract A method for determining substrates specific for a transferase enzyme selected from glycosyltransferases and sulfotransferases The method includes the steps of a) selecting a substrate to be tested for specificity for sulfotransferases and for glycosyltransferases, fro some specific tn, tetra or penta saccharide compounds b) combining the substrate with glycosyltransferase or sulfo-transferase and donor compound c) incubating the incubation mixtures at a temperature of from 18 to 40 degrees Celcius and pH of 6 to 7 for from 30 minutes to four hours, d) testing the reaction product to determine effectiveness of transferring the particular moiety to the substrate, and e) determine whether a particular glycosyltranferase or sulfotransferase acts to transfer the particular moiety thus determining whether the substrate acts specifically with a particular glycosyltransferase orsulfotransferase The invention also includes a method fo the specific detection of a specific transferase for a specific moiety selected from sulfotransferases and glycosyltransferases.
