Merr. extract, triterpene saponin compounds isolated therefrom, saxifragifolin B and saxifragifolin D, which inhibit the growth of cancer cells and induce apoptosis of cancer cells, and thus are useful for preparing a composition for preventing and treating cancers and a method of isolating a triterpene saponin compound from an Androsace umbellata Merr. extract.
