Immortalized fetal liver cell lines |
abstract |
The present invention relates to a human fetal hepatocyte cell line that is derived from primary human fetal hepatocytes. The hepatocyte cell line is cloned and is immortalized by increasing telomerase activity in the cell. The hepatocyte cell line is capable of producing urea, as well as capable of elimination of ammonia, lidocaine and/or galactose and the cell line has the ability to differentiate into functional mature hepatocytes. The invention further relates to methods for generating such human fetal hepatocyte cell lines and to methods in which the- cell lines are used for the production, bioconversion and/or removal of substances from body fluids such as blood in e.g. bio-artificial liver systems. |
