abstract When a fission yeast Schizosaccharomyces pombe is used as a host for the production of a heterologous protein, if a conventional promoter is used, the protein is produced only in a small amount or the protein is hardly expressed. Then, provided a heterologous protein expression system which can produce a heterologous protein. An expression vector for use in a fission yeast Schizosaccharomyces pombe; a transformant of Schizosaccharomyces pombe having the expression vector introduced therein; and a process for producing a heterologous protein using the transformant, particularly a process for producing a heterologous protein in which a promoter of a heat-shock protein gene of Schizosaccharomyces pombe is used and the expression of the gene is controlled under a specific stress or without the stress, whereby the timing of the production of the desired heterologous protein can be controlled.
