abstract The present invention provides an isolated nucleic acid molecule comprising a sequence encoding a protein that, upon expression in a plant, confers tolerance to osmotic stress. Also provided transformation vectors, transgenic plants and plant propagation materials comprising the said sequence, and a method for producing a transgenic plant that is tolerant to osmotic stress conditions and/or has improved germination. The use of a nucleic acid molecule according to the invention is also provided.
