The present invention relates to the use of the glycosyltransferase encoded by the lgtD gene from Haemophilus influenzae as a β1,3 galactosyl transferase to catalyze the transfer of a galactose moiety from UDP-Ga1 to an acceptor bearing the terminal non reducing structure Ga1NAcβ-3-R to form the Ga1β-3Ga1NAcβ-3-R structure. It also relates to the large scale in vivo synthesis of globosides oligosaccharides such as globopentaose, which are the carbohydrate portions of globotriosylceramide (Gb3Cer), globotetraosylceramide (Gb4Cer) and globopentaosylceramide (Gb5Cer) respectively and of potential anticancer vaccines of the globo-series glycosphingolipids, including the Globo-H. |
