Disclosed is a nonaqueous electrolyte battery having high energy density and good cycle characteristics. Also disclosed are a positive electrode used in such a battery, and a positive electrode active material used for such a positive electrode. Specifically disclosed is a positive electrode active material having a composition represented by the formula (1) below and a crystallite size in the (110) plane of not less than 85 nm.
