abstract The present invention relates to high-quality water-soluble chitosan oligosaccharide, a composition comprising the same and a method for the preparation thereof. More particularly, high-quality water-soluble chitosan oligosaccharide according to the present invention has an average molecular weight of 1,000 to 11,000 Da, a molecular weight distribution of 1 to 1.5, an intrinsic viscosity of 0.020 to 0.250 g/D-sec, a degree of deacetylation of 90 to 95%, a moisture content of 1.0 to 3.0%, and a inorganic content of 0 to 1%. High-quality water-soluble chitosan oligosaccharide may be obtained by the separation according to the molecular weight thereof using ultrafiltration membranes. High-quality water-soluble chitosan oligosaccharide according to the present invention has very narrow molecular weight distribution and high purity, and exhibits little cytotoxicity, thereby being usefully applied in various fields, for example pharmaceutical applications or functional health foods.
