A grid polarizer is provided with a first layer composed of a transparent material, a third layer composed of a transparent material, and a second layer stacked between the first layer and the third layer. The second layer is provided with a layer (A) extending in a long thin line, and a layer (B) extending in a long thin line, and a plurality of layers (A) and layers (B) are alternately arranged. The layer (A) extending in the long thin line includes a material of which an absolute value of a difference between a complex refractive index (N=n-i:) of an actual portion (n) and that of an imaginary portion (:) is 1.0 or more, and the layer (B) extending in the long thin line includes a gas. The third layer is bonded to the layer (A) through a compound having a reactive group that bonds to an inorganic material and a reactive group that bonds to an organic material. Alternatively, the third layer is a layer composed of a transparent inorganic oxide or inorganic nitride, or a layer composed of a porous material. |
