abstract Disclosed is a fluorescent substance which can be excited with a visible light and has a higher photostability and a longer fluorescent life time. Also disclosed is a fluorescent substance comprising a non-natural amino acid which is applicable to a peptide synthesis system. A fluorescent substance is searched which comprises a fluorescent amino acid, can be excited with a visible light, has an increased photosensitivity and has the lowest possible molecular weight. As a result, a fused polycyclic aromatic compound is found as such a substance, which can be produced by substituting a compound having an acridone skeleton by an amino acid and fusing the benzene rings therein. That is, a fluorescent substance is provided which comprises an amino acid-substituted benzoacridone derivative which can be excited with a visible light.
