abstract The invention relates to a method for the identification of compounds and/or mixtures of compounds that provide photoprotection for the skin against ultraviolet (UV) rays and to the use of same in the development of a method for screening compounds that can provide photoprotection for the skin. The inventive method comprises the following steps consisting in: obtaining an in vitro sample of human Langerhan cells or dendritic cells, culturing the sample, incubating said sample with the compounds to be determined, irradiating same with ultraviolet rays, analysing the variation in the expression of molecules involved in the presentation of the antigen and costimulatory molecules, analysing the reduction in the variation of the acquisition of CD83, CD86, CCR7 and/or MHC-II in response to the maturation-inducing agent, analysing the variation in the IL-10, p70 IL-12 and/or TNF-a levels, and finally analysing the level of cell apoptosis induced by ultraviolet radiation in the culture of the sample of dendritic cells or Langerhan cells.
