Disclosed are amphiphilic acetals of formula (1), wherein R<SUP>1</SUP> represents n-C<SUB>8</SUB>-C<SUB>22</SUB> alkyl, iso-C<SUB>9</SUB>-C<SUB>22</SUB> alkyl, n-C<SUB>5</SUB>-C<SUB>18</SUB> alkylphenyl-, or iso-C<SUB>5</SUB>-C<SUB>18</SUB> alkylphenyl-, R<SUP>2</SUP> and R<SUP>4</SUP> independently represent C<SUB>1</SUB>-C<SUB>7</SUB> alkyl or have the same meaning as R<SUP>1</SUP>, R<SUP>3</SUP> represents C<SUB>1</SUB>-C<SUB>7</SUB> alkyl, A represents a group of formula -C<SUB>2</SUB>H<SUB>4</SUB>- or -C<SUB>3</SUB>H<SUB>6</SUB>-, and the indices a, b, c, and d independently represent numbers from 0 to 50, at least one of the indices a, b, c, or d imperatively having a value other than 0. The inventive compounds are suitable as surfactants, emulsifiers, demulsifiers, humectants, foamers, or antifoaming agents. |
