abstract Disclosed is a light-transmitting ceramic having high light transmittance. Specifically disclosed is a light-transmitting ceramic mainly containing a perovskite compound having a chemical composition represented by the following general formula: (Ba1-s-tSrsCat)(MxB1yB2z)vOw (wherein M includes at least one of Sn, Zr and Hf; B1 represents at least one of Mg, Zn, Y and In; B2 represents at least one of Ta and Nb; 0 ≤ s ≤ 0.99; 0.01 ≤ t ≤ 0.45; x + y + z = 1; 0 < x ≤ 0.9; 1.00 ≤ z/y ≤ 2.40; 0.97 ≤ v ≤ 1.05; and w represents a positive number required for maintaining electroneutrality). This light-transmitting ceramic can be advantageously used as an objective lens (2) for an optical pickup (9).
