abstract |
A heat-shielding coating material having high heat-shielding properties. The water-based coating composition is characterized by containing inorganic particles comprising spherical metal oxide particles. Although various compounds and other ingredients are contained in water-based coating compositions, the incorporation of spherical metal oxide particles into a water-based coating composition has enabled the composition to have the high ability to reflect sunlight as stated above. The inventors have developed inorganic particles having a high degree of sphericity and found, in the course of the development of inorganic particles having a high degree of sphericity, that inorganic particles having a high degree of sphericity can be dispersed in a liquid in an extremely high concentration. They hit upon the application thereof to coating compositions. It was ascertained that heat-shielding properties also can be improved because inorganic particles having excellent sunlight-reflecting properties can be incorporated in a large amount. |
