titleOfInvention | Methods for synthesizing alkylated and alkenylated quinone derivatives |
abstract | The present invention relates to methods for preparing quinone derivatives comprising reacting quinones with organoborane reagents to produce alkylated and alkenylated quinone derivatives. In one embodiment, the present invention provides processes comprising the reaction of mixed diaryl- and dimethylalkyl or alkenylboranes with p-benzoquinone, substituted p-benzoquinones, o-benzoquinones as well as napththquinones, and isomers and substituted derivatives thereof. The invention also provides methods and compositions to treat, prevent or ameliorate cell injury or cell death initiated by the enzyme sphingomyelinase, including but not limited to cell injury or cell death as a direct or secondary result of hypoxia (ischemia or stroke), radiation, chemotherapy agents, poisons, biological warfare agents, extremes in temperature (hot or cold), pressure, trauma and the like. |
