abstract A nematic liquid crystal composition characterized by consisting of a nematic liquid crystal composition of negative dielectric constant anisotropy containing at least one compound of the general formula: (I) as a first component, and at least one compound of the general formula: (II) as a second component. By virtue of the use of this nematic liquid crystal composition, there can be provided a liquid crystal display that up to a high temperature zone, can maintain a high voltage retention, and that realizes quick response without reducing of cell gap, excelling in reliability.
