abstract The invention relates to a method for production of curcumin of formula (I), by reaction of vanillin of formula (II) with 2,4-pentandione of formula (III) and B<SUB>2</SUB>O<SUB>3</SUB> in the presence of an amine in a solvent which is inert under reaction conditions, subsequent at least partial removal of the solvent, hydrolysis of the crude product obtained thus by addition of water and separation of the curcumin thus obtained from the aqueous phase.
