Adenoviral serotypes differ in their natural tropism. The various serotypes of adenovirus differ at least in their capsid proteins (e.g., penton and hexon proteins), cell binding proteins (e.g., fibrous proteins), and proteins involved in the replication of adenovirus. This difference in tropism and capsid proteins, among the serotypes, has led research to be redirected to adenovirus tropism by modification of capsid proteins. The invention overcomes the requirement for the modification of capsid proteins, it presents a recombinant adenovirus deficient in replication, serotype 26, rare adenoviral serotype. The invention relates to methods for generating this novel recombinant adenovirus. In addition, the invention relates to means for using this recombinant adenovirus to distribute and express heterologous genes. |
