abstract The invention relates to a method of rational drug design based upon the surprising discovery that the structurally very different antibiotics enacyloxin Ha and kirromycin bind with Elongation Factor Tu (EF-Tu) in a similar manner. This allows for new chemical entities and new antibiotics to be developed. The invention defines a method for designing new antibiotics which are structural hybrids of enacyloxin IIa and kirromycin; the new antibiotics combining critical moieties of each of the parent molecules.
