titleOfInvention | Modulation of serotonin transporters |
abstract | This invention relates to regulation (modulation) of monamine neurotransmitter homeostasis by Syn. In particular, it relates to regulation of neurotransmitter re-uptake by cells and specifically to regulation of re-uptake of serotonin by cells in the brain, by Syn. The present invention also relates to diagnosis of (screening for) depression or other serotonin-linked mental condition in which blood Syn levels are determined. The diagnosis method is useful to identify people who may develop (be prone to) depression and people who have depression (e.g., to distinguish those with depression from those with bipolar disorder/manic-depressive illness). In further embodiment, the present invention relates to a method of assessing the response of an individual receiving anti-depressant treatment to the drug(s) he or she is receiving. |
