abstract The invention relates to bacteriophage tail proteins and the derivatives and fragments thereof that are capable of binding endotoxins in the absence of bivalent positive ions, especially Ca2+ or Mg2+. The invention also relates to methods for depleting endotoxins from solutions and samples using the inventive bacteriophage tail proteins and to a detection method for endotoxins.
